A ventless fireplace is one that requires no chimney or outside venting to release smoke. A HearthCabinet® Ventless Fireplace is a particular type of ventless fireplace that uses cartridges containing a clean-burning mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water. A HearthCabinet Ventless Fireplace is a self-contained unit that does not require a chimney or any venting. It also doesn’t require a gas line, electrical wiring, or connections of any kind. It can be installed easily, indoors and out, by simply sliding the unit into place.

Lighting a Fire

HearthCabinet Ventless Fireplaces do not burn gas or wood or any liquid fuel. Instead, they use Safety Gel Cartridges™  , which burn cleanly with no smoke and no odor. To light a fire in a HearthCabinet Ventless Fireplace, simply place a Safety Gel Cartridges in the fireplace and light it with a long lighter or match. To ensure safety, the Locked Safety Screen™ allows you to see the fire clearly, but it prevents anyone from getting close to the fire, including pets or children.

Cartridges last about two hours and then go out on their own. The cartridges can also be extinguished, manually, with the snuffer plates that come with every HearthCabinet.

History of HearthCabinet Ventless Fireplaces

HearthCabinet® Ventless Fireplaces was created in 2004 by Arthur Lasky, an architect, and Michael Weinberger, an inventor and product liability attorney. They wanted people to be able to enjoy having a fireplace anywhere, even in homes and buildings that can’t accommodate wood or gas fireplace installations. Each fireplace is handcrafted in New York City by local artisans.

Alcohol Gel Fuel Cartridges

HearthCabinet Ventless Fireplaces use patented, eco-friendly alcohol gel fuel cartridges that are safe and create a brilliant, crackling flame. Using these cartridges, there is no smoke, ash, or debris. And no connections of any kind are required- unlike a wood or gas fireplace. 

The alcohol-based fuel is a clean-burning mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water, with a little thickening agent; it’s similar to hospital grade hand sanitizers or chafing fuels. Isopropyl alcohol is preferred over ethanol alcohol because it produces a better flame. The fuel in each cartridge burns approximately two to two and half hours.

While ventless fireplaces are not meant to heat your house, HearthCabinet Ventless Fireplaces do give off a comfortable aura of heat to be enjoyed near the fireplace. Each gel fuel cartridge provides 5,000 BTU’s of heat for a maximum of 10,000 BTU’s when using two cartridges at once, side-by-side. And since no chimney or venting is required, all of the heat remains in the room.

The single-use fuel cartridges are easy to use; you never have to worry about touching, pouring or mixing fuel. Cartridges come in cases of eight, are purchased online, and will be shipped to your door. Empty aluminum fuel cartridges can be placed in the recycling bin after they cool. 

Safety

HearthCabinet Ventless Fireplaces are designed with safety in mind here. They have patented safety features that are unique to HearthCabinet and ensure they can be used safely.

First, the fire is safely out of reach behind our patented Locked Safety Screen. You can see the fire through the screen, but once you close the lock the screen, the fire is completely secure. Next, HearthCabinet Ventless Fireplaces use patented Safety Gel Cartridges for fuel. Just drop one in and light it. Other systems require you to store liquid alcohol in your house and then pour it into the fireplace which can be messy. HearthCabinet Ventless Fireplaces even have models designed to meet UL Standard 1370, the UL standard for unvented alcohol fuel burning decorative appliances.

So the combination of the Locked Safety Screen and the Safety Gel Cartridges produces the safest fireplace system in the world. HearthCabinet Ventless Fireplaces are even approved for use in New York City- the only brand that we know of to get that approval.
